Bid To Raise Salaries Of Expat Doctors

KUWAIT CITY, April 7

The Ministry of Health will soon implement a health insurance system to allow citizens to choose between government and private hospitals, reports Al-Kuwaitiyah daily quoting Undersecretary Dr Khalid Al-Sahlawi.

Disclosing that the ministry intends to sign agreements with insurance companies, Al-Sahlawi said this is just one of the steps being studied by the ministry to push for the immediate implementation of the health insurance plan for citizens.  He explained this entails the completion of electronic files for Kuwaiti patients prior to the implementation of the plan to avoid errors committed earlier.

Meanwhile, the health areas have begun receiving applications from expatriate doctors for raise in salaries which will then be submitted to the Ministry of Health, reports Annahar daily.

However, the Director of the Al-Sabah Health Area Dr Adel Al-Asfour was quoted as saying the Al-Sabah Health Area had begun receiving such applications from non-Kuwaiti doctors one month ago.

Al-Asfour pointed until now the health area has received applications for salary increment from 1,020 doctors.

The increments for Kuwaiti doctors range between KD 100 and KD 150 for registered doctors and public practitioners; between KD 150 and KD 200 for grade one public practitioners; KD 200 and KD 250 for specialist doctors, between KD 250 and KD 350 for grade one specialists and between 300 and KD 350 for consultants.
