Temporary administrative license costs KD 75,000
KUWAIT CITY: Minister of Communications Salem Al-Othaina has issued Ministerial Resolution 657/2012 to regulate the licenses of Internet Service Providers (ISPs). The ministry now offers one-year temporary administrative licenses to the companies to enable them continue providing services to their clients, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
In a press statement, the ministry said the decision contains 17 clauses regulating the licenses of Internet service providers in Kuwait. He noted the new decision invalidates all licenses issued before this period, since the service providers were affiliated to the ministry through former decision 70/2002. The new resolution presses for interested companies and establishments which are technically and financially competent to re-apply for license.
The statement added that applicants should present documents to prove the claim of prior experience, which will be necessary when their applications are presented to the concerned committee formed through the ministerial decision 256/2012. The committee will review all applications for onward presentation to the minister for approval or rejection, it added.
Also, the cost of administrative temporary license is KD 75,000, which is nonrefundable. The license can be renewed through a ministerial decision or after the Public Authority for Communications has been established. Applicants should present a KD 75,000 guarantee from any local bank to the ministry and should remain valid throughout the duration of the license validity.
In addition, the companies in question must regularize their status or pay outstanding amounts for temporary license within three months from the date of issuance; otherwise, the ministry shall take appropriate steps against them.
