KUWAIT CITY, April 18

In his first statement the newly-appointed Director of General Traffic Department Major- General AbdulFattah Al- Ali has disclosed as of Wednesday the Traffic Sector has activated the law which will link the validity of the driving licenses of 'mandoubs' and 'drivers' to the validity of their residence permits, reports Al-Rai daily. For example, he said, if the validity of the residence permit is for one year, the driving license will have the same validity.

The charges for each year will be KD 2. Driving licenses which have already been issued for this category of drivers for 10 years, he said, are still valid. He went on to say, the Ministry of Interior will withdraw such licenses if the holders change their designation. Meanwhile, he disclosed, Bedoun and Kuwaitis who commit serious traffic violations will be jailed and expatriates deported from the country.
