KUWAIT: The upcoming discussion on the grilling filed by MP Khalid Al-Tahous against HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Muhammad Al-Sabah threatens to disrupt the upcoming women's law, reported Al-Qabas. The interpellation falls on the same day previously allocated for discussing the women's law.
"The grilling is expected to be discussed on the June 22 session, the same session allocated for the women's law after the women's committee finishes their report on June 17," said MP Dr Roula Dashti .
Moreover, Dashti explained that the parliament has so far approved 8 reports regarding the draft law. She added that allocating monthly salaries for stay-at-home housewives was not among the reports approved. Dashti added that the door is only open now for amendments to be proposed.
Meanwhile, during their meeting today, the Parliament's budgets committee is expected to discuss the budget for the Public Institution For Social Security for the fiscal year of 2010/2011, reported Al-Qabas.
They will discuss its compatibility with the development plan and the final audit report of the Public Institute for Social Security (PIFSS) for the fiscal year 2008/2009. They are also expected to discuss notes made by the Audit Bureau on these issues.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly's housing affairs committee is scheduled to discuss proposed amendments to the regulations of law number 47/1993, the law regarding housing welfare. Furthermore, the legislative and legal committee will discuss several issues including lifting the immunity of MPs Musallam Al-Barrak and Mohammad Hayef. The two have had journalism-related charges filed against them.
Meanwhile, the KD 160 million in allowances recently approved by the cabinet will not be included in the state budget for the current fiscal year, according to a memorandum regarding the issue sent by finance minister Dr. Mustafa Al-Shamali to National Assembly (parliament) speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi. The allocations will instead be included in the supplementary budget, the minister explained. The problem over the inclusion of the allowances came after the cabinet delayed handing over the final reports on the budget, according to the finance ministry.
On a separate note, the finance ministry has the highest fund allocation for the 2010/2011 fiscal year of all the ministries at KD 3.8 billion, reported in line. The next highest spending ministry is the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) with KD 3.4 billion, followed by the Ministry of Defense with KD 1.22 billion, the Ministry of Education with KD 1.20 billion, the Ministry of Health with KD 1.06 billion and the Ministry of Interior with KD 820 million.
