ERBIL - The Kurdistan Region's Deputy Prime Minister Imad Ahmed has rejected being granted the authority to sign oil contracts, stating that Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani should be responsible for this.
Ahmed said: "Barzani has given me full authority, but I rejected the authority to sign oil contracts. It's unacceptable that the PM and his or her deputy has the same authority or power."
The deputy PM added that Kurdistan's budget for this year was delayed due to the late ratification of Iraq's budget. He said the Marriage and Housing Grant will continue, as will sending students abroad to study.
PM Barzani is from the Kurdistan Democratic Party and deputy PM Ahmed is a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
