Amman - Head of the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company JPMC board Walid Kurdi on Saturday resigned as a parliamentary committee is probing a graft case involving the company's privatisation.

A Lower House panel has been named to look into the privatisation deal and other alleged irregularities related to post-privatisation activities being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Kurdi took the JPMC board after being named as representative of the government of Brunei, a strategic partner holding four seats on the board.

He said in his resignation letter that the decision was to preserve the company and "put the public interest above the private interest."
