Karbala council okays 2012 projects at IQD356b
KARBALA: The Karbala Provincial Council's reconstruction & strategic planning committee approved on Sunday 285 projects for 2012 at a total cost of more than 356 billion Iraqi Dinars (IQD), the committee chairman said.
"The additional projects for the supplementary budget of 2012 were endorsed at a cost of IQD356.212 billion (roughly $305 million).
Among those projects come 82 for electricity costing IQD61 billion, 40 projects costing IQD30 billion for housing and reconstruction and six communications projects costing IQD1.400 billion," Dr.
Abbas Nasser Hassani told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
He added that there are also 20 projects for education costing IQD43 billion and 101 projects for municipalities costing IQD191 billion.
Four projects up to IQD1 billion will be dedicated for sports and two projects up to IQD4.5 billion for agriculture.
"Twenty-four projects costing IQD18 billion will be channeled into the health sector while IQD1 billion will be covering six other projects for higher education, civil registration and traffic," he said.
The holy Shiite city of Karbala is located 108 km southwest of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
