KUWAIT: The acting secretary general of the Manpower and Government Restructuring Program (MGRP), Fauzi Al-Majdali, has revealed his intention of proposing a minimum wage of KD250 for Kuwaiti citizens employed in the private sector, after the MGRP recently found out that some were being paid as little as KD150 by certain companies.
Al-Majdali stated that such companies should increase the salaries of their Kuwaiti employees. "It is illogical that the government should pay those citizens over and above the salaries they get. Is it logical that a citizen holding a university degree works from morning to evening for as little as KD 500?" he asked.
Al- Majdali also compared the salaries earned by citizens employed in the private sector with those earned by Kuwaitis working in the public sector, noting that bachelors with a university degree earn KD835 in the public sector but KD690 in the private sector.
He pointed out that a married citizen with a university degree would get KD923 in the public sector and KD798 in the private sector.
"A bachelor diploma certificate holder gets KD739 in the public sector and KD 629 in the private sector, whereas a married person earns KD820 in the public sector and KD723 in the private sector," Al-Majdali added.
