Saudi Arabia has urged the UN Security Council to take immediate action to stop Israeli attacks on the Syrian territory.

"The Council of Ministers denounced these flagrant attacks and considered them a serious violation of the sovereignty of an Arab state and warned of their serious consequences on security and stability in the region," Minister of Culture and Information, Abdul Aziz Khoja, said in a statement after the weekly meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, in Jeddah yesterday.

The Cabinet congratulated Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah on the occasion of the eighth anniversary of his ascension to the throne.

King Abdullah received the pledge of allegiance as the sixth king of modern Saudi Arabia on Aug. 1, 2005 corresponding to 26 Jumad Al-Thani, 1426.

The ministers commended the king, especially for his adherence to Islamic laws, maintenance of security and peace ensuring peoples' welfare and prosperity and the cohesion between the rulers and the people, Khoja said.
