KIA, Microsoft Kuwait sign agreement to foster innovation
KUWAIT CITY, June 13: Microsoft Kuwait today announced that Global Innovation Company which works under National Technology Enterprise Company ( NTEC ), (a subsidiary of Kuwait Investment Authority ) has been selected as the Network Partner for the Microsoft BizSpark Program in the region.
In the presence of His Excellency Mr Mustafa Al-Shamali, Minister of Finance of Kuwait and Ali Faramawy, Vice-President, Microsoft International, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between Bader Al Saad, Managing Director, Kuwait Investment Authority and Ehab Mostafa, General Manager, Microsoft Kuwait
The BizSpark Program is designed to accelerate the success of early stage startups in the region, by connecting them to Network Partners like the Global Innovation Company, who will provide mentorship, guidance and incubation resources.
In addition to helping accelerate the success of early stage start-ups with BizSpark, Global Innovation Company and Microsoft Kuwait will use the Microsoft Unlimited Potential Community Learning Curriculum, to build essential technology skills within the local community to create jobs and advance career opportunities. The foundation will also facilitate an internship program to host young Kuwaitis at Microsoft Kuwait .
Speaking at the launch, His Excellency Mustafa Al-Shamali, Kuwait Minister of Finance said, "The Ministry of Finance remains committed to empowering Kuwaiti entrepreneurs to innovate and facilitate job creation in the region. Our partnership with Microsoft will ensure that startups get access to current, full-featured tools and technologies that help turn their ideas into a thriving business to help grow the economy."
Commenting on the initiative, Mr Ali Al Shuraidah, General Manager, Central Agency for Information and Technology (CAIT) said, "Kuwait Government has always valued partnerships with the private sectors for sustainable development and effective implementation of strategic initiatives. Leveraging on the capabilities with cutting-edge technology provided by Microsoft is an essential investment in Kuwait's future."
Bader Al Saad, Managing Director Kuwait Investment Authority said "We will work closely with Microsoft Kuwait to help businesses use technology to achieve business success by providing educational programs, business mentoring and peer networking. We are excited to be part of this new effort that will encourage the future generation of successful entrepreneurs and help create a vibrant ecosystem in the Arab world."
The program provides access to Microsoft's platform technologies and development tools with no upfront costs. Regional startups may enroll for the program by obtaining sponsorship from Global Innovation Company.
Anas Meerza, General Manager National Technology Enterprises Company said "The objective of this MOU compliments the vision of NTEC which supports and encourages the Kuwaiti youth in the domain of IT enterprises through investing and building a centre for Microsoft. This centre will work on the objective of training and encouraging the future generation of successful entrepreneurs who have a potential in IT"

"During times of economic stress, it is even more important that startups have the technology and market resource support they need to succeed. With BizSpark, Microsoft is providing world class tools, technologies and market resources to students and entrepreneurs in the region to help bring new ideas, new companies and new software innovations to life".
Wael Al Sagar, Chairman, A.H Al Sagar & Bros emphasized on the importance of the BizSpark initiative. He said "By supporting such an initiative, emerging companies will have a positive influence on the economy and private sector in the long run".
The signing was also attended by Mohammed Al Turra, Public Affairs Manager, Microsoft Kuwait .
BizSpark is uniquely designed to help startups that are engaged in software development, by:
- Providing them with "express access" to Microsoft tools and technologies, for their immediate use in design, development, testing, demonstration and hosted application production and deployment
- Connecting them with Network Partners like Global Innovation Company and a global community of support resources
- Offering them global visibility on the MicrosoftStartupZone website via the BizSparkDB (database), an online Startup directory, hosted on the MicrosoftStartupZone website www.MicrosoftStartupZone.com/bizspark
