Amman - In light of the peak summer holiday season and increased flight activity, Airport International Group (AIG) - the Jordanian company responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) - has announced major improvements in year-on-year passenger traffic (PAX) and aircraft movements (ACM) statistics during July compared to the same month in 2014. Furthermore, QAIA's year-to-date (YTD) cargo traffic has continued its positive growth trend since the beginning of the year.

Throughout the month of July, QAIA handled 7,833 tons of cargo as opposed to 7,385 tons during the same month in 2014, which recorded a 6.07% rise. Alternately, QAIA welcomed 749,314 PAX compared to 578,026 PAX, noting a significant 29.6% increase in comparison to the same period last year, and registered 6,926 ACM as opposed to 6,335 ACM, which indicated a 9.3% year-on-year rise.

"July's positive year-on-year results can be largely attributed to the increase in flight activity mainly from across the Gulf, Egyptian, Turkish and Iraqi markets, as well as the expansion of QAIA's network with the addition of new airlines. Another key factor for the tangible improvements in traffic was Eid Al Fitr, leisure and expat travels during the high summer season. Given the upcoming seasons of Hajj and Eid Al Adha, we aim to build on this development and look forward to witnessing enhanced results in the months to come," stated AIG CEO, Kjeld Binger.
