BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi government announced today its total rejection for the presence of PKK forces inside its territories, threatening to file a suit to the UN Security Council.
In a statement by the Cabinet, the government asserted its right to defend Iraqi sovereignty and independence.
The Cabinet discussed today the agreement reached between the Turkish government and Kurdish opposition, represented by the PKK Party.
The Iraqi government confirmed its stand to support the peaceful solutions to all problems affecting the region, but "should not affect Iraq and its national sovereignty".
"The presence of PKK forces on Iraqi soil is an avowed violation for Iraqi sovereignty and independence, and will affect neighborly relations and interests", the statement added.
Iraqi foreign ministry was instructed to inform the Turkish side the Iraqi rejection for entry of any person, armed or not, into the Iraqi territories, or any other procedures without consulting Baghdad.
The ministry is expected to inform the UN Security Council, the Arab League and the Islamic Cooperation Organization.
PKK announced on 14 May instant the arrival of its first dispatch of fighters into the Iraqi territories, pointing that the withdrawal process will continue during the coming days.© Aswat Aliraq 2013
