The largest and most comprehensive coastal engineering project of Iran, namely protection and simulation of the coastal areas of the country's northern provinces, has been launched.

Deputy head of Port and Maritime Organization (PMO) for technical and engineering affairs said that the project, which is a part of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM)) project, will be implemented following the protection and simulation studies conducted in southern coasts of the country since 2005.

He said the project, which will be implemented in cooperation with a research institute, is the largest one executed in the Persian Gulf Littoral States and Middle East in terms of integration and area, said a report released by PMO's Public Relations Office.

He said that Iran is the first country among Persian Gulf littoral states that implemented such as huge project.

Kebryari referred to the shoreline management plan (SMP) as an important part of ICZM Project.

He said that a significant part of the plan has been approved by High Council of Architecture and Urban Development and governor generals of the coastal provinces of the country.

He hoped that the organizations and entities which are involved in the activities related to Caspian Sea would cooperate in implementation of the project.

Integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) or Integrated coastal management (ICM) is a process for the management of the coast using an integrated approach, regarding all aspects of the coastal zone, including geographical and political boundaries, in an attempt to achieve sustainability.
