Some 2.608 million tons of crude steel were produced in the first two months of the current Iranian year (started March 21).
According to the report released by IRNA, 2.881 million tons of steel products were produced by the private and state-run sectors during the period.
It noted that Iran produced 321,000 tons of crude steel during April 21-May 21.
Earlier, Deputy Industries, Mines and Trade Minister Vajihollah Jafari said steel ingot production is expected to increase by 4 million tons till the end of the current year.
Jafari noted that the steel manufacturing units of Fars, Isfahan, Gilan and Yazd province will increase the country's steel ingot production capacity by 3.5 million tons.
Crude steel production capacity of Iran was 19 million tons last year and the figure is expected to exceed 22 million tons this year.
Mobarakeh Steel Complex and Isfahan Steel Mill in Isfahan province and Ahvaz Steel Company in Khuzestan province are the three major producers of steel in Iran.
