Shams Organization for monitoring elections in Karbala announced on Monday, that initial results of the local elections showed State of Law coalition led by Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki in the first rank followed by Ahrar Movement of the Sadrist movement.
"The initial results of our 350 observers in Karbala, showed the progress the State of Law coalition in the first rank by obtaining 67 thousand votes," the representative of Shams organization in Karbala, Hussein al-Ibrahimi told "Shafaq News".
"Ahrar movement came in second place after winning 44 thousand votes, while Lewaa list led by Yousif al- Habboubi came in the third rank winning 28 thousand votes," the organization said.
In Najaf the organization added that "the initial results of the provincial elections in Najaf province, showed Wafaah list, led by Najaf's governor, Adnan al-Zarfi in the first rank by obtaining 121 thousand votes".
"Mwaten (citizen) list headed by the leader of the Supreme Council, Ammar al-Hakim came in second rank after winning 75 thousand votes, while the third place was for State of Law coalition, winning 74 thousand votes".
"Ahrar bloc of the Sadrist movement was ranked in the fourth place after winning 42 thousand votes ," the organization added.
While Basra, a source told "Shafaq News", that "State of law coalition gained more than 120 thousand votes after preliminary sorting processes".
"Mwaten list gained 98 thousand votes while Ahrar bloc led by Muqtada al-Sadr gained 91 thousand votes that may increase in three days after announcing the final results," the source said.
The first general polling provincial elections process was concluded on 20th of April in 12 Iraqi provinces, as 50% of those eligible to vote participated in those provinces, according to IHEC , they were distributed on 5190 electoral centers and 32 102 polling stations.
The provincial elections are the first to be held in Iraq since parliamentary elections in 2010 as well as the first one since American troop's withdrawal December 2011.
