Dubai-An Indian motorist who has not committed traffic violations walked away with a luxurious Chevrolet Cruze 2013 model during a raffle draw conducted as part of a ceremony held to honour the winners and sponsors of the white point system.
The car was given by Al Ghandi Auto. David Devine, Marketing Exceutive at Al Ghandi Autho, told Gulf News the idea of associating with this initiative is to promote good driving.
“Everyone knows about black point and bad driving, it is good to know that committing no violations leads to good driving and Al Ghandi is proud to reward drivers with clean record.”
Dubai Police Chief Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, said, “The traffic culture, which is now deeply rooted in the community, is a concrete evidence of the elegance of its members in dealing with laws and values consolidated by Dubai Police.”
He was speaking during the honouring ceremony of the sponsors of the white point system initiative, which was launched in January 2013 to reward well-behaved and good drivers who have not committed traffic fines.
“Deaths fell from 21.7 per cent for each 100,000 people, in 2007, to 3 per cent in 2012, as part of our efforts to bring this rate to zero deaths by 2010,” Lt. Gen Dahi said.
Major-General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Chief of Dubai Police Traffic Department, said, a total of 700 motorists- winners of the white point system- have already received their prizes, but we aim to increase this number in the next years.”
The sponsors of the white point traffic rewarding system were honoured during the ceremony.
The white point system was launched by the traffic department to reward motorists who do not commit any violations and reduce road fatalities, as part of a comprehensive strategic plan embraced by Dubai Police to reduce the number of deaths to zero by 2020.
Rewarding well-behaved motorists is in line with Dubai Police’s belief in the principle of reward and punishment, and that they are not money collectors.
The white points system is implemented by Dubai Police to encourage motorists to follow traffic rules and become safer drivers as well as to reduce the number of deaths in road accidents
Each eligible person can receive a total of 12 white points a year, one for each month. One white point will be credited at the end of each month. A motorist loses his entitlement to the month’s point on being involved in any kind of accident or for committing a violation during that month.
“The white points are valid for a year. If one complies with the rules and regulations and earns white points for five consecutive years, one will be eligible to a big raffle draw for a vehicle.
In order to be eligible for the system, the driver has to maintain a clean record throughout the year.
