Leading accountancy body ICAEW and PwC's Academy celebrated the graduation of 14 Emiratis to obtain the new ICAEW Accounting Skills Certificate (ASC) during a ceremony held at Sofitel Hotel in Dubai on 1st November.

Certificates were presented to 14 Emirati graduates acknowledging their successful completion of all the examinations required for the prestigious ASC. The qualification is designed to cover the foundation knowledge and skills in accounting and finance and to allow participants to develop and practice core accounting and finance techniques.

''We are very proud of all the students graduating today. The ASC programme opens up various opportunities for the students to pursue, including other professional qualifications. We hope the graduates will become role models among their peers and encourage more home grown local talent in the region to pursue a career in finance and accountancy,'' said Amanda Line, Partner, PwC.

The ASC course offers complete training in all fundamental areas of accounting and finance and equips participants with the skills required to work effectively within the accounting function of an organisation. The programme is largely followed by other corporate groups in Abu Dhabi and Qatar.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Michael Armstrong, FCA and ICAEW Regional Director for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) said: ''We would like to congratulate all the graduates who have successfully completed the ASC programme. A strong finance and accountancy sector is the backbone of any sustainable economy and we believe that harnessing the vast local talent available in the region is necessary to advance the economic growth of the UAE. The ASC qualification is a great stepping stone into a full  professional chartered accountancy qualification, providing students with the knowledge they need to embark on their careers and gain essential practical experience."

Mohammad AlKhaja an ASC graduate who joined PwC's Watani Programme recently said "I am delighted to be able to join a multinational company like PwC and get the opportunity to receive this certificate by ICAEW, it's a great starting point for me and my colleagues to fulfil our potential and contribute to our society."

Aisha Ahli, a female graduate who joined PwC's Watani programme said "UAE is booming more and more every day, being offered this opportunity by ICAEW and PwC creates a solid foundation for me to develop my career path as a female professional."

Launched in 2014 and designed by ICAEW, the ASC serves as a platform for other professional qualifications. The ASC is exclusively delivered by PwC's Academy in English and Arabic across the Middle East. It is targeted towards a range of participants from young graduates to finance professionals looking to adequately prepare for the demands of the workplace.
