RIYADH: The governmental Human Rights Commission (HRC) slammed on Saturday the UN Human Rights Council, saying its credibility was at stake for its inaction on the Palestinian issue.
In a statement, the HRC also condemned the Israel's May 31 assault on the Gaza-bound MV Mavi Marmara that led to the death of nine activists in international waters.
The HRC extended its condolences to the families of the victims and wished the several wounded activists speedy recovery. Calling the latest violence against Palestinian supporters a continuation of inhumane Zionist actions, the HRC decried the blockade of Gaza, which was imposed in June 2007 by Israel and Egypt after Hamas won Palestinian legislative elections.
The blockade, it said, is Israel's attempt to starve women, the elderly and children.
The HRC statement is in line with the Kingdom's view that actions such as the assault on the MV Mavi Marmara are violations of international law and that the three-year-old blockade must end.
