Gulf2012 joint military exercise concluded
Abu Dhabi, 2 May 2012 (WAM) - The UAE-French joint military exercises codenamed "Gulf 2012", performed in the UAE, have ended successfully, Lt. General/Pilot Rashad Mohammed Al Saadi, Spokesman of the UAE Armed Forces, said today.
Al Saadi who was talking during a press conference with Vice Admiral Marin Giller, Spokesman of the French Armed Forces, said the exercises were part of the UAE Armed Forces' joint training programme with sisterly and friendly forces, aimed at sharpening combat skills and capabilities. "The joint exercises were carried out in line with the keenness of the GHQ of the UAE Armed Forces to boost performance, operational capabilities and teamwork among the forces and under a clear strategy for upgrading levels of combat readiness. "The exercises have no relation whatsoever with the regional developments but a fruitful outcome of excellent ties between the two countries. They are part of joint drills performed every four years since 1996 and are aimed at training on planning, executing and managing joint operations as stated in the joint defence agreement signed in 1995," Al Saadi said. He described the joint exercises as a culmination of the close cooperation between the UAE and French armed forces and a reflection of the strong strategic ties between the two countries. For his part, Giller said he was pleased with the successful outcome of the exercises. He praised the skills and abilities shown by the UAE armed forces personnel during the drills. "The exercises achieved their goals at both individual and group training levels," he added.
