Gulf News
Dubai: Libya's Afriqiyah Airways will commence four direct weekly flights between Tripoli and Dubai as of Tuesday, boosting air links on the route that is witnessing significant traffic growth amid the opening up of the Libyan economy.
These flights will be operated with a new Airbus A319 aircraft, which the company received on September 8. It will offer 16 seats in business class and 96 seats in economy.
On Sunday and Wednesday, the flight will depart Tripoli at 9am local time, while the departure from Dubai is scheduled at 5.15pm.
The Dubai-Tripoli route is already served by Emirates and Libyan Arab Airlines . Emirates increased its frequency to Tripoli from five to seven weekly flights earlier this year.
"We expect strong business and tourist traffic on the route. Afriqiyah provides good onward connections to major points in Africa," a Sharaf Travel representative told Gulf News.
Increasing scope
Afriqiyah , which commenced operations in December 2001, serves 23 destinations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, according to information on the airline's website.
These include Abidjan, Amsterdam, Cairo, Dakar, Geneva, Jeddah, Lagos, London, Paris and Rome.
With Dubai being the Middle East's trade hub, the flow of Libyan business people coming to the city has been increasing.
