Fly to unpopular spots to save money

Even if you are fighting the rise of airfares, you can still spend less on your summer vacation, but you have to know which destinations are budget-friendly at this time of year.
The key is to stay away from tourist-driven destinations. Since most UAE travellers are likely to flock to popular spots this summer, it may be difficult to find a great deal if you’re dreaming of London, Paris or New York.
For those feeling adventurous, consider places like Cairo or Tunisia. With the recent strife, not many people feel like spending their holidays there, so there’s a great chance you can score cheap flights and even stay in luxurious hotels for a much cheaper price.
Think of Southeast Asia, where your dirham can stretch further than in other destinations. Consider Sri Lanka, Vietnam and other less popular Asian spots. “Sri Lanka is a good pick because you can find really good packages for decent rates,” said Bangara.
UAE-based non-travel specialists like GoNabit, a group-buying website, are dishing out budget-saving holiday deals for local residents.
The company has just launched GoNabit Getaways which recently offered a night’s stay for two people at the Kempinski Hotel Ajman for 67 per cent off the regular price.
The deal included breakfast, dinner, two 30-minute massages, one hour of ten-pin bowling and a voucher for future pool and beach access.
“We offer deals ranging from hotel stays and vouchers with online travel merchants, to all inclusive travel packages,” said Dan Stuart, CEO of GoNabit.
