Sharjah The transport authority of Sharjah yesterday launched a new service that enables passengers to enquire about bus arrival schedules at all bus stops across the emirate through their mobile phones.

“This latest service is a key addition that reflects our interest in providing the best possible service for customers,” said Abdullah Al Zarri, Director General of Sharjah Transport.

The announcement of the service, ‘My Trip Planner’, was made at Sharjah Transport’s exhibition stand at the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) World Congress in Dubai, which concluded yesterday.

Fahad Al Awadi, General Manager of the Kuwait-based KGL Company, which is franchised to run public buses in the emirate, said: “There are 800 bus stops across the emirate of Sharjah and passengers will be able to find out what route they can take by logging on to the internet.”

Best routes

Visitors can browse the website “mowasalat.ae”, where they are required to key in where they want to start their destination, and at which point they want to end their journey. The new service will then provide the best possible routes.

Al Awadi explained that passengers are required to key in the number 2272 followed by the bus stop number and the route number, before dialling.

“Within a few seconds, the passenger will receive a text message on when the bus is expected to arrive at the bus stop,” he added.
