Dubai: The Jebel Ali Station on the Red Line of the Dubai Metro will open to the public on Friday, the Roads and Transport Authority ( RTA ) announced yesterday. The station will provide thousands of employees working in the Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority ( Jafza ) with an easy and cheap transport option.
“The Jebel Ali Station is mainly intended to serve the Jebel Ali area and in particular Jafza as well as Jebel Ali Port,” Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA , said.
The Jebel Ali industrial area houses around 6,600 firms, employing more than 129,000 people. Some 40,000 employees also live in staff accommodations within the free zone while thousands commute daily from Dubai and Sharjah to this area.
