Company launches Hatta taxi service
12 Sept 2006
Dubai: Residents in Hatta will now be able to use meter taxis as a new company has been given permission to operate in this picturesque town.
"The Hatta taxi service has been launched in line with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority 's objectives to develop affordable and easy transport system for public in all areas of the emirate," said Mohammad Obaid Al Mullah, Chief Executive Officer of the Public Transport Agency at the RTA.
Al Mullah yesterday signed an agreement with Iqbal Habib Al Yousuf, Chairman of Al Yousuf Group and Director General of Hatta Taxi Company, giving permission to run the taxi service for the next three years.
"This new service was launched after several studies were conducted which proved that the taxi service will help people commute smoothly as well as save time and money," he said.
The service will operate 30 vehicles, including 15 regular taxis and 15 larger-capacity vehicles because of the nature and lifestyle of the people of the area since they also carry a lot of goods, including food, from Dubai.
"The service will also help curb the activities of illegal taxis."
Al Yousuf said that all drivers hired for the Hatta taxi service would undergo training at the transport institute of the RTA to ensure greater safety standards and customer services.
The vehicles will be automatic, supplied with safety equipment and will carry a maximum of four passengers.
