MANAMA: Trade-related aspects of Intellectual Property Rights agreements were the focus of a meeting of top GCC officials that concluded in Manama Thursday.

The workshop discussed the agreements of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the commitments of GCC states to the multilateral trade system.

The GCC officials also explored ways of tackling barriers to free trade, SPA reported.

The workshop, as well, discussed sanitary and phytosanitary measures (the SPS Agreement) and the implications of each of the aforementioned agreements on GCC countries.

Such specialized workshops aim to strengthen the capabilities of Gulf specialists with the aim of deepening their knowledge in WTO issues and regulations, according to the GCC General Secretariat.

These discussions also help senior GCC officials to increase their awareness of international trade conventions and their impact on Gulf economies.
