Dubai, UAE: As part of the process of keeping up with the pace of change with the new technological advancements and to enhance the capability of the GCAA Air Accident Investigation Sector, air accident investigators recently undertook advanced training from the supplier, CAE/Flightscape. The 5 days practical and theoretical training course conducted by Mr. Bob (Robert) Hoyle, Director of CAE/Flights cape, Canada.
H.E Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of GCAA, announced that the Modern aircraft are complex machines and the aircraft systems record significant amounts of flight data. Technology advances have made flight data analysis and playback a widely accepted, necessary, and practical activity for all aviation authorities charged with investigation responsibilities.
The advanced use of the flight data analysis laboratory will enhance the UAE's flight safety investigation as well as the aviation safety investigation for the gulf region allowing the Air Accident Investigation Sector to conduct detailed analysis of aviation safety issues.
The General Civil Aviation Authority's Air Accident Investigation Section [AAIS] recently installed a Flight Data Recorder [FDR] and Cockpit Voice Recorder [CVR] laboratory to assist the investigation of serious incidents and accidents in the UAE and the GCC region.
The GCAA laboratory provides the capability to readout and analyses flight data and cockpit voice recorder information for all aircraft types on the UAE civil register, using the state of the art analysis tools provided in the CAE/Flightscape flight data analysis laboratory, which has been in constant use for the previous twelve months as the Air Accident Investigation Section employ this new technology in the pursuit of advancing aviation safety
Mr. Ismaeil Abdulwahed, Executive Director of Air Accident investigation sector, added that The CAE/Flightscape flight data analysis FDR/CVR laboratory, a sophisticated technical hardware and software based analysis laboratory, has been instrumental in pursuing the GCAA's safety obligations in the UAE and with the aircraft operating to and from the UAE, by conducting this training The functional capabilities and operation of all of the advanced CAE/Flightscape system operation is now fully implemented by GCAA.
