KUWAIT: The United Tower, which a 60-storey residential and commercial building that is currently under construction in Kuwait City, will not just be known as the second tallest building in the country, but also as a futuristic building that could be recognized as one of Kuwait's newest landmarks.

The construction of the United Tower was disclosed yesterday by Chairman and Managing Director of United Towers Holding Company (UTHC) Ahmad Saud Al-Sumait during a press conference, where he noted that UTHC has already laid the foundation stone of this building. Scheduled to be completed by 2010, the KD 70 million state of the art project is being built at the area of 98,000 sq m next to Al-Madinah and Al-Shaheed towers, along the Khalid Bin Al-Waleed Street in Sharq.

Al-Sumait described the building as the first in a series of futuristic projects designed to keep up with the country's economic progress. He pointed out that the building would add a distinctive architectural and aesthetic element to the Kuwaiti capital. "This will be the beginning of several major projects for the UTHC," noted Al-Sumait.

The building is unique and will be equipped with modern, technologically-advanced facilities. The project is designed to accommodate commercial offices on its higher levels, residential and luxury apartments on its middle level and there will also be a commercial high-end mall with luxury retail stores and car parks to serve the tower's visitors and residents.

The United Tower will also feature a business center as well as a health club and a luxurious spa that is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The building will also entail the latest security system to ensure the safety of the tower's visitors and residents. The building will be fully equipped with the latest services including Internet connections and satellite TV station reception facilities.

The United Tower will be known as one of Kuwait's landmarks considering its unique architectural design. According to Al-Sumait, the real estate development boom in the country is expected to continue over the coming years, which has already caused a drastic change in building systems and introduced modern technologies that have been readily absorbed by the real estate sector. "With the inclusion of the United Tower skyscraper, Kuwait City has indeed become a destination for an increasing number of residential and office towers," he added.

United Towers contracted Al-Ahmadiah Contracting Company to execute the project. Engineer Ali Al-Saleh, Senior Project Director of the United Real Estate Company, stated that the tower will be built according to the most modern specifications and world-class smart technologies. The United Tower Holding Company and United Real Estate Company, the real estate investment arm of Kuwait Investment Projects Holding Company (KIPCO), are the owners of this project.
