Iran exported $60 million worth of flowers and plants last year (ended March 20, 2013), said the managing director of the Union of Flowers and Plants Producers and Sellers.

Jalal Ajayebi added that 200 million flowers and plants were produced in the country, IRNA reported.

"Iran is a four-season country with high potential for producing flowers and plants," he said.

He said outdoor and apartment plants are being exported to neighboring countries, noting that lack of financial resources and advanced technology are among the most important problems facing the sector.

The official said establishment of export terminals can help increase exports and earn more revenues for the country.

Ajayebi noted that 100 million ornamental and 100 million outdoor plants are being produced in the country annually, while 3 million flowers are being produced in Iran monthly.
