Thousands of trade visitors thronged the halls on the first day of Decofair 2013, Saudi Arabia's only premium international furniture and interior design show, which was officially opened yesterday by Eng. Hamad Naser Alshagawy, Chairman of the Saudi Council of Engineers. More than 100 of the world's top interior design brands are showcasing global and regional launches at the show which runs from 29th
November - 2nd
December at the Jeddah Centre for Forums & Events.
"We thank Eng. Hamad Naser Alshagawy for his support for Decofair, the Kingdom's longest- established and most influential trade show for the interior design industry," said Naomi Barton, International Sales & Marketing Director, Reed Sunaidi Exhibitions. "The overwhelmingly positive response we have received from both exhibitors and visitors so far at the show confirms that Decofair is successfully delivering contracts, customers and business opportunities for Saudi Arabia's burgeoning design industry".
Decofair 2013, which this year celebrates its fifth anniversary, has attracted its strongest contingent of international exhibitors on record. Among the world-renowned brands exhibiting at the event are Swiss furniture company Vitra, French designer Kenzo Maison and Danish manufacturer BoConcept. Celebrating excellence in chair design was first-time exhibitor Asdi Sedia with a pavilion showcasing the latest concepts from Italian manufacturers.
The first day of the show also marked the launch of Decofair Discussions, a series of talks convened by event knowledge partner International Interior Design Association (IIDA), in which world experts shared latest research and opinion on interior design. Guest speakers included Oonagh McDonnell from Dar Al Hekhma College, Abdulaziz Al Azem from Design Tech Services and Amy Lam from Alam Creative.
Commenting on the opening day, Cheryl Durst, Executive Vice President and CEO, IIDA said: "We are really impressed by the calibre of speakers participating in Decofair Discussions today. The range of topics covered and insight that they have provided will be of great benefit to the design community throughout the Kingdom."
Saudi Arabia's flourishing design talent also enjoyed an opportunity to showcase their work to visiting design professionals at the inaugural Decofair University Design Showcase. Presented by Dar Al-Hekma College, the body of student work not only received high praise from visitors but also helped connect some participants to professional work placements.
Oonagh McDonnell, Acting Program Director and Assistant Professor, Interior Design Program at Dar Al Hekhma College Jeddah said: "As the most influential interior design show in the Kingdom, Decofair is the ideal platform to showcase the work of the region's design talent from Dar Al-Hekma. The students have appreciated the opportunity to be part of such a key industry event. "
