As global demand for oil and gas continues to rise and the Middle East's vast reserves become increasingly important to the international energy industry and global economic stability, the world's major players are lining up to participate in the 8th Middle East Geoscience Conference and Exhibition, GEO 2008.
Taking place from March 2 to 5 at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre and Ritz Carlton Bahrain, this landmark event brings together highly-respected individuals and companies from both the Middle East and around the world in a quest to further unlock the hydrocarbon potential of this prolific area.
Over 1,500 delegates and senior decision makers will attend the conference inauguration on March 2 at the Ritz Carlton. The opening will feature a welcome address by Dr. Abdul-Hussein bin Ali Mirza, Bahrain's Minister of Oil & Gas Affairs and Chairman of the National Oil and Gas Authority, followed by a panel discussion led by Farouk H. Al Zanki, GEO 2008 Chairman and Chairman and Managing Director of Kuwait National Petroleum Company.
A distinguished panel of speakers will then address this year's conference theme: 'Integrated Geoscience - Technical, Business and People Solutions'. Speakers include: Abdulkarim Al Sayed, Chief Executive Officer, Bapco, Khalid Al Falih, Executive Vice President, Saudi Aramco; Johnny Hall, Executive Vice President, ExxonMobil Exploration and Chakib Sbiti, Executive Vice President, Schlumberger.
Over the following three days at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre more than 400 poster and oral presentations, as well as a selection of high-level guest speakers, will share their knowledge and experience, fostering an innovative and dynamic atmosphere. The associated exhibition of exploration products and services will open with an official ceremony under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Bahrain Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa on March 3, 2008 at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre.
Amongst over 170 exhibitors are all six Gulf Cooperation Council national oil companies: Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) and Qatar Petroleum (QP). International oil companies also maintain a strong presence at GEO 2008 with Chevron, ExxonMobil, Japan Oil, Gas and Metals Corporation (JOGMEC), Occidental, Shell and Total occupying significant exhibition space. Service industry giants Baker Hughes, Halliburton and Schlumberger amongst others consolidate this line up in addition to dedicated UK and North America pavilions.
