Bolivia has awarded development of its 12 oil and gas exploratory blocks to the Islamic Republic of Iran, an official of the Petroleum Ministry said.

Giving details on Iran's ties with Arab, African and South American countries in oil and gas sectors, the country's Petroleum Ministry's director general for Arab, African and Latin American Affairs, Hasan Ahmadian, said, "Iran has been committed to develop 12 oil and gas exploratory blocks in Bolivia," Moj News Agency reported.

Iran has also signed a memorandum of understanding to train Bolivian employees in oil and petrochemicals sectors, he said, adding that "moreover, several MoUs have been signed in drilling, exploration, petrochemicals, industries and oil and gas sectors with Bolivia."

The two countries will also cooperate to repair, develop or establish refineries, he added.

Cuba and Ecuador
Referring to Iran's ties with Cuba and Ecuador in energy sector, Ahmadian said Iran has signed a MoU to supply the Cuban side with technical services.

"We have also signed MoUs with Ecuador to export petrochemical products and urea fertilizer to the South American country," he added.

Iran's Petro Pars cooperates with Venezuelan National Oil Company, Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA), for development of the South American country's oilfields, he said, adding that the two companies have recently established a joint company--Veniroc--to boost ties in the upstream oil and gas industry.

According to him, the two sides have also established joint petrochemical and shipping companies.

African Countries
Ahmadian also mentioned that Iran has been cooperating with South Africa's Sasol in petrochemicals sector and the two sides have established a joint company in Iran called Arya Sasol Polymer.

"Iran also cooperates with Angola's state-run company, Sonangol, to develop the South Pars Phase 12," he said.

National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) is committed to repair oil wells in Libya, he added.

Iran, Venezuela, Malaysia and Syria want to establish an oil refinery with the capacity of 140,000 barrel per day in Syria.

Iran holds the third largest oil reserves and the second largest natural gas reserves of the world.
