Emerson eyes $120bn worth projects in oil and gas sector

DOHA: Despite Qatar's plans to diversify its hydrocarbon-powered economy, the country will see the launch of at least 80 varied projects- worth $120bn- in oil & gas sector in the next seven to ten years, an industry expert has said.

Of the total projects, majority would be upstream projects, Branko Pecar, General Manager for Emerson Process Management Qatar said here yesterday. Emerson Process Management is a global business division of technology leader Emerson USA.

"The Emerson Process Management would be actively involved in these projects. We are looking for a fair share of the project value. Most of them are long horizon projects. But some of them would be launched in 2013. Some projects are in the design stage", Branko told reporters.

Branko also revealed that Doha Petroleum Construction Co. Ltd ( DOPET ), in partnership with the Emerson , has launched a most innovative and broadest array of process aut0omation solutions in Ras Laffan Industrial City . The new facility was built with an initial investment of $3m. The facility will support Emerson 's end-users in Ras Laffan Industrial City by providing comprehensive services for Fisher control valves, the DeltaV digital automation system, Rosemount measurement technologies, and Rosemount Analytical analyzers and sensors.

"Our customers in Qatar need to maintain their operations in the most agile way and a locally-based Emerson Process Management facility demonstrates our serious commitment to offering easily accessible and reliable services to ensure full customer plant availability. Our clients deserve world-class support and this is exactly what we are committed to delivering".

On the new facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City , Amir Khouzani, General Manager for DOPET operations said " the opening of this jointly managed service facility demonstrates our strong commitment to the existing customer base as well as the building of our capacity to grow our business further. Qatar's rapid growth and globalization in recent years has necessitated a commitment to providing high-quality products and services and this facility enables Emerson to support the increasingly sophisticated needs of our customers".

Commenting on the launch of the new facility, Dave Tredinnick, President of Emerson Process Management, Middle East & Africa said; " Emerson Process Management is committed to the Middle East, with facilities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Kuwait, Basra, Manama, Al Khobar and in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Emerson has already made major investments in Qatar to support the capital investment stage for many projects that were executed in the country."
