BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--Egypt's ministry of energy and electricity plans to tender three local power generation projects with a total capacity of 5,500 megawatts and a combined cost of nearly 50 billion Egyptian pounds ($7.42 billion), Cairo-based Al Ahram daily reports Saturday.
This capacity will comprise 2,250 MWs from a project in Dayrout city in Behaira governorate, 1,300 MWs from the steam power project in Qena, and 1,950 MWs from a project in Beni Suef, the newspaper reports, citing minister of energy and electricity Ahmed Imam.
The Egyptian government has guaranteed the investments of the Dayrout project until a unified electricity act is issued, Mr. Imam said, according to the daily. This project is expected to be tendered to the ten qualified companies in mid-May, he added.
