ABU DHABI, 19 November 2010 (UN Information Service) ESCWA is convening an Expert Group Meeting on "Promoting Best Practices on Sustainable Rural Livelihoods in the ESCWA Region," from 24 to 25 November 2010 at the UN House in Beirut.
The meeting, which opens early on Wednesday November 24th, will be attended by experts from 10 countries in the ESCWA region and representatives from the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and a number of concerned non-governmental organizations, according to UN Information Center in an email statement. The meeting will provide an opportunity for experts, both from ESCWA region as well as national, regional and international organizations working in the area of rural development, to exchange views and experiences on best practices regarding the application of the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach (SLA) as a tool for rural development. During the meeting, a draft guide on the "Application of the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach in the ESCWA Region" will be presented. Participants will also discuss measures for developing appropriate capacity-building initiatives to include policy guidelines and field projects to enhance a framework for developing related projects for SLA-based rural development in the region.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2010.
