Contest open to students of all ages and nationalities

Dubai, November 17, 2012: The Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) has launched a competition among the student community to select a logo for its second satellite mission, DubaiSat-2. The competition is open to students of all ages and nationalities studying in any school, university or college in the UAE. The designer of the winning logo will receive a Mac Laptop.

Through the competition, EIAST aims to get an appropriate logo that portrays DubaiSat-2, Dubai, and the Emirati culture. The competition is being organized in five groups on the basis of age ranging from 5 years to 25 years and above. Besides the main prize, top designs in each age category will be awarded AED 500. The last date for submitting entries is 15th January 2013. Entry to the competition is free.

"The idea behind the competition is to involve tomorrow's generation in one of Dubai's major accomplishments. Space, science and technology are creative efforts and full of fun. Through the competition, EIAST aims to inspire students to gain insights about space science," said Abdulla Al Qemzi Head of Media and External Communications at EIAST.

Apart from its obvious place on DubaiSat-2, the winning logo will feature on all material related to the satellite mission such as mission patches, online and print content and promotional material.

"EIAST has always maintained a close interaction with the student community, hosting students for vacation work or internships. As a premium educational resource, EIAST offers students opportunity to participate in their final year projects, specifically those studying Geo Sciences and Remote Sensing. I urge all students to take part in the competition and showcase their efforts in Dubai's space mission," said Ghariba Salem Commercialization Officer at EIAST.

The DubaiSat-2 project is a joint development programme between EIAST and Satrec Initiative of South Korea, in which 16 UAE engineers have been working on the design, development, testing and manufacturing of the satellite.
