Work has started on the project's Aviation District - a purpose-built area designed to host a wide variety of different air industry business, ranging from maintenance firms to charter operators.

A spokesperson for the project's management yesterday revealed that private air charter firm Majestic Wings has signed up to move to the site within the next 12 months, making it among the first firms to set up business at the aero hub as it develops its own hangar facility.

One of the flight firm's owners, HE Sheikh Hamad Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, said: "We aim to take advantage of the growing aviation sector in the region, and moving to DWC's Aviation District is the logical step to achieve that."
