Dubai:The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) provided schools that participated in international assessment tests with detailed report about their results in order to allow for improvement by assessing the weakness and strengths.
The Analysis reports of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and the Progress of International Reading and Literacy Study (PIRLS) results will enable private schools in Dubai to measure academic standards against the global average.
“Our comprehensive reports not only give a breakdown on every individual student’s achievement, they also provide international data so schools can benchmark the academic progress of their pupils,’ said Rabaa Al Sumaiti, Head of International Assessments and Bilingual Inspector at KHDA. “We have given private schools in Dubai a separate report for both TIMSS and PIRLS. It gives the institutions a tool to monitor the quality of education they are providing in all areas and encourages them to make improvements where necessary.”
Dubai’s private schools first participated in the TIMSS assessments in 2007 and PIRLS in 2011. Since then more schools have expressed interest in the studies, keen to determine students’ achievements on an international scale.
According to Jameela Al Muhairi, Chief of Dubai Schools Inspections Bureau said the new report system will increase transparency. “Schools participating in these exams will receive detailed feedback from KHDA,” she explained. “All schools should be aiming to meet the international average and rise above it. By analysing their results, schools can assess and identify problem areas and plan for better education.”
