AMMAN -- A centre for diabetes, endocrinology and genetics will be opened soon at Al Bashir Public Hospital, Minister of Health Abdul Latif Wreikat said on Sunday.
He noted that the ministry had acquired the needed equipment and specialists to run this centre.
The minister also announced that the ministry's medical personnel would be redistributed in order to address shortages in certain specialisations.
Wreikat made the remarks during a meeting with directors of health directorates and public hospitals, where he also announced that resident doctors would be assigned to serve in emergency rooms in order to provide better services for emergency patients.
Figures he presented showed that there are 600 resident doctors serving in the Kingdom's public hospitals.
In a statement sent to The Jordan Times, Wreikat said incentives would not be paid to medics who did not commit to their working hours as scheduled by their directors, and "the ministry's inspectors will tour hospitals to check on those who work extra hours as scheduled".
The minister also noted that working hours at some comprehensive health centres in areas with no hospitals will be extended to better serve residents of these areas.
