$714.8-billion worth of construction projects underway in the UAE

Al Assam: event offered visitors and investors fresh perspective on diversity of our portfolio

Dubai- 07 October 2010: Dewan Architects & Engineers, one of the leading architectural and engineering consultancy firms in the region, has successfully completed its participation in Cityscape Global 2010, which took place from 4 to 7 October 2010 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

During the World Architecture Congress - the world's premier forum for the global architecture and design industry which ran for two days during the event - Mohammed Al Assam, Founder and Chairman of Dewan, gave a speech titled "Adopting a credible, coherent and practical architectural style in the Middle East".

The presentation, which touched on the aspects of working with local cultures to create sympathetic architecture in the region, capturing regional identity and essences and translating these into powerful designs, working with extreme climate considerations without compromising aesthetic integrity, as well as developing regulations that will protect the region's heritage, was well received by the attendees.

So too were the projects showcased, which included Dewan Architects & Engineers' latest projects in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq. Among these were the prestigious Al Bateen School for Aldar Academies in Abu Dhabi, the twelve schools it is designing for the Abu Dhabi Education Council, the Bateen Park Residential Complex, the Fairmont Hotel and Resort in Abu Dhabi, development of the area surrounding the religious shrines in Kadhimiya in Baghdad, and the Shegery Residences residential city in Riyadh, among others.

Despite a slowdown in most sectors, a recent report by the Dubai Chamber revealed that $714.8-billion (Dh2,629 billion) worth of construction projects are either at design stage or already under way in the UAE.

Said Al Assam: "We were extremely impressed with the turnout and activity at the event, and believe that, while some projects ceased activity as a result of the global financial crisis, the market is prepared for a rebound. We are glad to report that we are continuously moving forward with all of our projects. In fact, we received an overwhelmingly positive response at Cityscape Global and we regard our participation here as a great success.

"Through our participation in the World Architecture Congress, as well as through the projects showcased, we once again proved our commitment to providing an integrated approach to building communities through our unique offerings, and we believe that the event offered visitors and investors a fresh perspective on the diversity of our portfolio."

With 38,000 participants from over 115 countries, 200 exhibitors and hundreds of real estate projects on show from across the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe, the four-day Cityscape Global exhibition is the annual gathering for international real estate professionals especially from emerging markets.
