23rdJanuary 2012, Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Decide, a not-for-profit programme of an alliance of companies offering products and services that help in diabetes management is today pleased to announce its participation in the 2012 Arab Health Exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Arab Health is the largest healthcare exhibition and medical congress in the Middle East, to be held in Dubai from 23rd till 26th January.

Running under the umbrella of Modern Pharmaceutical Company (MPC), one of the largest healthcare distributors in the UAE, Decide aims to improve awareness and encourage positive attitudes towards an improved behavior amongst those living with diabetes.

Decide uniquely addresses diabetes outside the clinic and aims at pooling resources to dynamically shift levels of compliance across the UAE shares Jan Felton, Decide Spokesperson and Managing Director of MPC.

Decide partners, Servier, Nestlé Health Science, MPC, Merck Serono, Medtronic, LifeScan, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and AstraZeneca have collaboratively come together to support the mission of the Decide programme. Decide is dedicated for comprehensive communication and education on how to "Live life to the full with diabetes" where diabetes actually happens through its web portal www.decidecommunity.com and also through the Decide Patient Pack, which contains useful information and samples to aid compliance with diabetes management, as well as through its educational and awareness events

Diabetes forms the greatest health threat in the UAE today with 25 per cent of the population[1] diagnosed with the condition. Diabetes is a serious and lifelong condition and if not managed properly, may lead to adverse health outcomes and serious complications.

A sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy dietary choices contribute to the increasing concern about the country's health. With the vast majority of cases in the UAE diagnosed as Type 2 diabetes influencing change in behavior would not only greatly reduce the increasing number of diabetics, but also the incidence of health complications and life threatening diseases such as cardiovascular and renal failure that directly arise from diabetes.

Decide recognizes that better education and greater awareness of the condition could lead to the successful prevention and management of diabetes. The programme aims to educate, raise awareness and provide support to patients and health care professionals to find new ways to increase compliance in patients as it's the biggest hurdle in successfully treating diabetes.
