28 May 2010
BEIRUT: Energy and Water Minister Jebran Bassil said Thursday that
Electricite du Liban (EDL)
will cut the power supplies of politicians on June 1 if they don’t settle their unpaid bills.
“
EDL
staff have called all the politicians and influential figures who failed to pay their bills for many years and warned them that the company could cut off electricity,” Bassil said in press conference.
He added that after the first warning was issued a few months ago, only 23 percent of these politicians warned paid their bills to
EDL
.
He added some these politicians complained they actually paid all their dues to
EDL
.
He called on those who feel that they have been treated unjustly to file a written complain to
EDL
.
Bassil stressed that in addition to politicians, there is a big number of institutions and tourist centers which also failed to pay their bills.
He urged the citizens to report any person or group involved in electricity theft and to call 01/560000 to press charges. – The Daily Star
