Lebanon, Syria seek joint telecoms strategy

BEIRUT: Lebanese Telecommunications Minister Charbel Nahas and his Syrian counterpart Imad al-Sabouni agreed on Tuesday to take advantage of their countries’ strategic locations by adopting a unified strategy for the improvement of the land and sea cables linking Syria and Lebanon to other countries. Sabouni underlined the importance of discussing common issues in the telecom sector of the two countries and the exchange of ideas. “We need to adopt a unified strategy aimed at improving telecom services especially that this sector is witnessing huge developments on the international level,” he said. His remarks came during Nahas’ visit to Syria in the aim of discussing the potential of cooperation between the two countries and the best ways to increase investments in this sector and its infrastructure and services in Lebanon and Syria. Nahas and Sabouni stressed the need to exchange expertise and knowledge in the field of organizing and structuring the telecom sector and the proper management of e-services. – The Daily Star
