EDL fines 1,000 people for electricity theft in January

BEIRUT: The state-run Electricite du Liban ( EDL ) said Thursday it has continued its crackdown on electricity theft across the country and warned all violators that the authorities will prosecute any individual and group which illegally connects cables to power lines. According to EDL , more than 1,000 people were fined for illegally connecting cables to power lines throughout January. In Beirut and the southern suburbs 303 violations were discovered, 105 in Mount Lebanon, 296 in the north, 224 in the south and 78 in the Bekaa Valley. EDL called for cooperation with technical teams and warned that it will prosecute anyone in breach of the law and will not hesitate to disconnect the power lines of violators. – The Daily Star
