Sfeir to take Imam Musa Sadr case to Vatican
17 April 2010
BEIRUT: Cardinal Nasrallah Butros Sfeir will take up the Imam Musa Sadr case in the Vatican during an upcoming trip, according to an Italian-Lebanese delegation that met with the Maronite patriarch. A statement issued by Ali Yacoub said that during a Thursday evening meeting in Bkirki, Sfeir said that discovering the truth surrounding Sadr’s disappearance was a just cause, highlighting Sadr’s efforts to unite Christians and Muslims. The statement said Sfeir would endeavor to tackle the issue of Sadr’s disappearance during his upcoming visit to the Vatican since “the imam does not only represent one religion but the whole country.” Iranian-born Lebanese Imam Musa Sadr, together with his two companions Abbas Badreddine and Mohammad Yaqoub, disappeared during an official trip to Libya in 1978. Lebanon’s judiciary has officially indicted Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi for his alleged responsibility in the case. – The Daily Star
