EDL fines 1,140 people for theft of electricity

BEIRUT: Electricite du Liban said Tuesday it has issued fines to 1,140 individuals for electricity theft and illegally connecting to power lines. EDL issued 393 fines in Beirut and the southern suburbs, 130 in the Mount Lebanon district, 295 in the northern district, 274 in the southern district and 48 in the Bekaa Valley. It called on all citizens to facilitate maintenance work by assisting teams that are trying to tackle electricity violations. The EDL warned that it would not hesitate to cut off power supplies from all those who breach the law. It stressed that those in involved in electricity theft would face criminal prosecution. – The Daily Star
