Lebanon tourism up 11.58 percent from 2009
09 August 2010
BEIRUT: Lebanese Minister of Tourism Fadi Abboud said on Saturday that the number of tourists visiting the country increased by 11.58 percent in July compared with the same month last year. Abboud said in a statement that the number of arrivals in July reached 361,934 visitors, compared with 324,363 visitors in July 2009. He expected a “second summer” influx of tourists after Fitr Day that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan which starts next Wednesday. “The ministry of tourism is keen for the comfort of tourists and a hotline number 1735 is put in action for their complaints,” the minister said. A country with limited industries and more than 14 million expatriates, Lebanon’s economy depends heavily on tourism and remittance. – The Daily Star
