'Dubai Municipality is proud to support DEWA in hosting the World Energy Forum 2012, which will held during 22 to 24 October 2012 at the Dubai International Convention Centre,' said Eng. Hussain Nassir Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality.  

The forum organized for the first time outside United Nations under the theme "A Forum for World Leaders" will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Dubai was selected to host this event after fierce competition from other international venues and cities.

Commenting on the role of civic body in hosting the WEF 2012, Eng. Lootah said, In line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice President and Prime Minster of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Municipality has been giving the environmental sustainability related plans, programmes and strategies the highest priority ensuring its role as a service organization to create an excellent city with comfort of sustainable living and essence of success.

'Dubai has been selected for WEF 2012 considering its leadership's vision and policy towards creating the most sustainable city in the world without contradicting the development of a modern city,' he said.  

'The world looks to the Energy Forum 2012 to discuss topics of alternative energy. Dubai Municipality, through a set of alternative energy systems, preserves the environment to keep the city clean and free of pollution. It has converted department vehicles to run on natural gas and some public parks to operate on solar-powered lighting in addition to other eco-friendly projects, which will see the light shortly,' he said.

The driving force

'Dubai Municipality has been a driving force behind the economic growth of the city ensuring excellence in providing best services and highest level of prosperity for all who live Dubai,' Lootah further said.  

'DM offers variety of services in the field of urban planning, building regulation, deployment of green areas, sewage reticulation and maintaining the health and environment. Municipality centers all over the emirate meets the needs of growing population,' he added.  

'DM played a big role in preserving the architectural heritage through its restoration projects of heritage areas and establishment of museums,'.

'The civic body has set up sewage networks, which provide large amounts of treated water for cultivated green areas including public parks, gardens, popular squares and nurseries,'. 

'It could increase awareness through "My City... My Environment" campaign for segregating waste from source and other eco-friendly initiatives such as "Healthy and Safe Summer", "Car Free Day", Solar Energy projects, Clean Up the World and Maraseena ...etc,'.

'DM is the organizer of EnviroCities International Conference 2012, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, KSA,'.

'Dubai Municipality achieved the excellence and received many local, regional and international awards taking up all challenges. So it is Dubai, where dreams and ambitions are boundless and projects are endless,' Lootah concluded.
