DEWA's MD & CEO receives Minister and delegation of the electricity and renewable energy of Libya
Dubai, UAE, 9 May 2012: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, has received today HE Dr. Awad Ibraik Ibrahim, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Libya with his accompanying delegation visiting the UAE in the presence of HE Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Emirates Central Cooling System (Empower), Nasser Lootah, EVP--Generation, Hussein Lootah, EVP-Transmission Power, Abdullah Obaidallah, EVP-Water & Civil, Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, EVP-BS, Rashid Humaidan, EVP-Distribution Power, Abdullah Al Hajri, EVP-Customer Service, Yousef Jebril, EVP-Power & Water Planning, Waleed Salman, EVP- Strategy and Business Development, and Khawla Al Mehairi, VP-Marketing & Corporate Communications, with other senior staff from DEWA.
The MD & CEO of DEWA welcomed the visit for reviewing the experiences of the UAE in general and DEWA in particular in the fields of electricity and renewable energy and its advanced water and electricity transmission networks.
"We are pleased to welcome the kind visit of the Libyan delegation headed by HE Dr. Awad Ibrahim Ibraik, a dear colleague with whom we all worked with for many years at DEWA. I'm also pleased to welcome the members of his accompanying delegation and wish them all a good stay in their second home in the UAE," said Al Tayer.
"Allow me, as MD & CEO, to talk about DEWA. We have coped with many surrounding changes through strategic planning based on planning for the future from a practical perspective and applying flexible plans that correlate with changes. DEWA could not achieve this without standing on a solid ground and implementing an integrated working system in the framework of its strategies to support the sustainable development in Dubai. DEWA has become a role model in the field of water, power and infrastructure thanks to the implementation of pioneering operating systems that deliver availability, reliability and efficiency during the past two decade. Also DEWA has scored many achievements and adopted pioneer initiatives in the fields of energy, environment and sustainability. You will be able to see all this during your visit and meetings with our officials and partners in the public and private sector locally and internationally, as well as from the presentations you will view over the two day visit," said Al Tayer in his welcome note.
The Libyan Minister of Energy expressed his appreciation for allowing this opportunity for this visit and stressed the importance of utilizing his successful experience at DEWA as one of the leading utilities worldwide in terms of availability, efficiency and reliability in order to regulate, enhance and assist the energy sector in Libya to overcome the persistent challenges it faces, and the role of the UAE in supporting the National Transitional Council and the people of Libya.
The event witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the DEWA and the Libyan Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, which provides for the mutual cooperation and exchange of information in the field of generation, power transmission and distribution, customer service, human resources, training programs, online services, renewable energy, joint investment projects, and other areas of common interest.
