TUNIS, Tunisia (AFP)--Tunisia lifted an overnight curfew Friday in eight regions of the country including the capital Tunis after rioting blamed on ultraconservative Salafist Muslims, the interior ministry said.
"Following the improved security situation and considering the citizens' interests, the defense and interior ministries have decided to end the curfew," an interior ministry statement said.
Tunisian authorities had imposed a curfew on the capital and several other parts of the country after violent clashes from Monday to Wednesday.
The clashes left one dead and dozens wounded after ultraconservative Salafists took issue with works at an art exhibition they deemed offensive to Islam.
