The 2012-2013 Cost of Living reports for the UAE & Qatar have now been released and are available for purchase. The UAE report is in its 10th successive year and the Qatar report is now in its 2nd successive year. As always the reports cover the main areas related to the cost of living, including - accommodation, healthcare, education, transportation, lifestyle, remuneration levels and business registration & set-up costs.
Director at the Cost of Living Reports team Nick Nice said that both reports will offer valuable insight into the current state of the UAE & Qatari economies, and could not have come at a better time.
"Following two years of what a conservative might perhaps call an anaemic and uneven recovery from the global financial crisis, the world is divided between those who believe it is over and those who believe the worst is yet to come. The global baseline forecast foresees continued anaemic growth in 2013. Such growth is far from sufficient to deal with the continued global job crisis in most developed countries and will more than likely result in the draining of income in developing countries," Mr Nice said.
"This spirit of scepticism however, is not across the board. Developing countries and economies in transition are expected to stoke the engine of the world economy by an average of 5.9% growth in GDP in 2013. It is still not the fantastic 7.5% growth that emerging economies have seen in 2010, but it indicates that while the Eurozone struggles with Greece and the US debates its fiscal cliff, there are economies out there that present great opportunity," Mr Nice said.
"We have carefully researched hundreds of pages of analytical data, breaking down vital figures for each of these key areas and wrapping them in an incisive commentary that makes the report a good read, as well as a vital HR & finance tool. We really delve into the social, economical and political implications of changing costs, giving our foresight into what to expect in 2013 and beyond," he said.
Mr Nice said "The UAE Cost of Living Report has established itself as a critical source of information for many of our clients, because it's being around for a decade, and we are confident that this year's UAE & Qatar report will provide the same benefit as always."
"The main purpose of the report is to provide accurate information to HR managers, directors and decision makers in Finance. Also within smaller businesses, the owners are very keen to utilise the report, so they can make informed decisions for their annual budgets, polices and procedures," Mr Nice said.
"If you're thinking about setting up accompany, or expanding your business in the region, these figures are absolutely vital," he said.
The UAE Cost of Living Report, formerly the Kershaw Leonard Cost of Living Report, has been created yearly since 2004, giving up to 10 years of comparison in certain parts of the report, spanning 130 pages with over 150 graphs and tables. Mr Nice said that, while they will continue to produce their annual UAE & Qatar report, they are excited to be expanding their efforts into other nations of the GCC, including KSA, Bahrain, Iraq & Kuwait; where reports for 2013-2014 will be released covering now 6 different countries in total.
"We are really excited to release the first ever KSA, Bahrain, Iraq & Kuwait Cost of Living Reports later this year, expected to be released in November 2013" Mr Nice said.
"We have been focusing our attention on the UAE & Qatar for the past ten years and, and while we will continue to produce our annual UAE & Qatar reports, we feel it is the right time to start delving into more of the GCC," he said.
The 2012-2013 Cost of Living Reports (Qatar and UAE) were launched in the first week of February 2013, including facts & figures from as recent as January 2013.
